ABOUT ME

Kumusta! Hello!

Firstly, how to pronounce my name - “Rizz-Cell Ga-Ga-Wa-Nun”. Pronouns: She/Her

I am a multi-disciplined Filipino-Australian creative based on Gadigal: producer, content creator, writer, director and performer. My last name Gagawanan derives from the Tagalog word 'gagawa' meaning to create, to build, the act of doing. What I do is a huge part of who I am and I consider myself a person of action. I’m a “Jack of All Trades” with the will (and stubbornness) to master them all. For confirmation, check out my Testimonials to see what people have said about working with me.

My producing work spans across multiple platforms from screen, theatre and social media. In my recent work in screen, I was a producer for 2025 AACTA nominated web series Bad Ancestors, produced by Purple Carrot Entertainment for ABC and Screen Australia’s Fresh Blood Initiative. In theatre, I have been the Consulting Producer for Darlinghurst Theatre Company. I am the co-founder and co-producer of Kallective, a group of Asian-Australian multidisciplinary artists whose latest theatre work Salt Baby was proudly supported by Create NSW, Creative Australia (formerly Australian Council for the Arts), PACT and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

In social media, I have made content for major publishers like BuzzFeed Australia, LADbible Australia, PopSugar Australia and The Latch. My biggest pride is producing the video series for ‘Filipino Week’ featuring viral Filipino-Australian TikTokers like Angelo Marasigan and Erica Padilla. The content garnered over 2 Million views across all BuzzFeed platforms.

As a writer I am developing my own slate of projects with a strong focus on Filipino-Australian and diaspora stories. My latest work Hanap, made in collaboration with fellow Filipino writer, Mark Mariano, was supported by Blacktown Arts Centre and Blacktown Council. I was part of the 2022 AFTRS NSW Talent Camp to help jump start developing my webseries Double Debut. I’m a proud member of SWEATSHOP, a literacy movement in Western Sydney. My short story, ‘Act Like a Filipino’, is featured in Racism: Stories on Fear, Hate & Bigotry (Sweatshop, 2021). I have also worked in writers rooms for several television programs as a note taker.

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which I’ve had the privilege to live and work on, the Gadigal peoples of the Eora Nation. I recognise their continuing connection to land, waters, culture and strength in storytelling. I pay respects to their Elders as well as to my own ancestors in the Philippines and the women of colour who have come before me and have made my path possible.
